What is Kiendel?

Kiendel is a new social network that aims to help its users fall in love with themselves by providing them with an alternate virtual space where they can be themselves without fear of judgement or criticism. In a world that often highlights our imperfections and drives us to constantly strive for perfection, Kiendel presents a different perspective on self-love and beauty. Stemming from the Norwegian word for ‘self’ (KjENDel), this new social network is centered around the idea of loving yourself first and foremost. Once you join Kiendel, you are presented with an avatar that reflects your real-life appearance. No filters or snapchat face mapping; just you as you see yourself in the mirror every morning. With just one look at your avatar, it becomes clear that this is not your usual social media platform — It’s a space where users can only see other users based on their natural appearance. As opposed to other networks that reward followers, likes, and views as indicators of popularity, Kiendel rewards users for being authentic and sincere through its honesty points system. If you post something positive about yourself or share something personal about your life without fear of judgement or criticism, then you’ll receive honesty points as recognition for being authentic and kind towards yourself. If you try to boost your own visibility by playing games with dishonest comments or hidden intentions of tricking others into following you, then you’ll lose honesty points instead.

Why Kiendel?

Why not Kiendel? If you’ve ever felt like you’re not good enough, then Kiendel is the perfect platform for you to celebrate yourself and the beautiful person you are. As we grow up and develop our personalities, we quickly come to realize that there is always something we should change about ourselves. Whether it’s our weight, height, skin colour, hair, or other physical features, we are always in a state of wanting to be something different. In adulthood, we are bombarded with messages telling us to “be better” and “achieve perfection” and “fit the norm”. Our social media feeds are full of comparisons, false advertisements, and images of people who have been digitally manipulated to appear “perfect”. And the worst part is that we’re feeding into it. We’re encouraging this mindset of “I’m not good enough” by constantly chasing after something that doesn’t even exist.

How Does Kiendel Work?

Kiendel doesn’t use an algorithm to match you with other users. The only thing that matters is your authenticity and sincerity towards yourself. As soon as you join Kiendel and create an avatar that reflects your real-life appearance, you are sent a list of other users who have joined the platform. You can then start sending “hello” messages to the users you’d like to connect with, and you’ll receive a stream of user-curated content that caters to your interests. Kiendel’s content is a mix between “hello” messages sent by other users and content created by “goodness” Kiendel users. You can tell if a particular post is created by a goodness user because it will have a green heart icon next to it.

The Goodness Meter

The biggest difference between Kiendel and other social media platforms is that it doesn’t measure your level of “goodness” based on your likes, comments, or followers. In fact, there is no “goodness” meter at all because the metrics of goodness have been thrown out the window. Instead, Kiendel calculates your level of “goodness” based on the number of honesty points you have collected. The more honest, thoughtful, and positive posts you make about yourself and your life, the more honesty points you’ll earn. If you try to boost your visibility by playing games with dishonest comments or hidden intentions of tricking others into following you, then Kiendel will detect your actions and take away your honesty points.

Beauty On Demand

Another thing that sets Kiendel apart from other social media networks is its “beauty on demand” feature. If you want to change your avatar to reflect a different appearance, you can do so at any time. Kiendel doesn’t discriminate against any appearance, so you can switch between any avatar you like. Because Kiendel doesn’t use any artificial or computer-generated filters, you can’t switch between beauty enhancements on the platform. You can, however, choose between any avatar you want to represent yourself and switch between them at any time.

Selfie Games

In addition to its features and functionalities, Kiendel also offers a variety of fun-filled “selfie games” that you can play with other users. For instance, one of the selfie games is a dictionary-inspired word association game that tests your ability to think outside the box and use non-traditional words to describe yourself. Another fun game is the “Guess Who?” selfie game where you get to “guess who” wrote a particular post and earn points for each correct answer. Keep in mind that only the authors of selfies written in the “Guess Who?” game receive points.

Bottom line

Kiendel is not your usual social media platform — It’s a space where users can only see other users based on their natural appearance.
